Going Old-school

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother told me once, that as a toddler, I once dragged a chair close to a cupboard, so I could reach to the radio.

Over the years my taste in music changed, but I always listened to music. When I was a teenager, I recorded music from the radio on to cassette. When I turned 16, I bought records and later cd’s. When I got older, I went back to records.

A while ago, I found a Denon cassette deck in a thrift store. I was quite cheap and looked in perfect condition, so I took the change and bought it. And it looks great with my (almost) matching CD player!

Fortunately I still had some old tapes, so I could play them again. Back in my 20’s I used to make mixtapes, with covers I made on a friend’s computer. So when I had my own cassette deck again, I figured it make sense to do another mixtape!

Remember this? Using scotch tape to be able to record on the cassette again? I took an old Sony UX tape, which is at least 22 years old and used it for my own mixtape.

Since I am heavily back into the music I listened to in my 20, New Jack Swing, I figured I’d make a cool mixtape of that. So here’s my tracklisting:

Side A
Ralph Treshvant – Rated R
Bobby Brown – Don’t Be Cruel
Janet Jackson – State of the World
Karyn White – Romantic
Silk – Happy Days
Shanice – Stop Cheatin’ On Me
Michael Jackson – In the Closet
Guy – Don’t Clap…Just Dance
SWV – Right Here (Human Nature mix)

Side B
Tevin Campbell – Can We Talk
Bell, Biv, Devoe – Poison
Jade – Don’t Walk Away
Boyz II Men – Motownphilly
Jodeci – Come & Talk To Me
Johnny Gill – Rub You The Right Way
TLC – Hat 2 Da Back
Keith Sweat – Love to Love You
Heavy D & The Boyz – Now That We Found Love
Karyn White – Secret Rendezvous

WHat do you think of it? I enjoyed making it and I have more tapes, so I probably will do another one soon. Most likely a hip-hop mixtape. What artist/song should I definitely include on that one? Let me know!
